History

Large dog with neck tumor. Contrast-enhanced scan performed to evaluate thorax and abdomen for possible tumor spread and assess soft tissue imaging capability.

Study

CT of the skull, cervical region, thorax, and abdomen. Transverse plane images obtained following intravenous contrast administration with multiplanar reformats available.

Skull / Cervical

  • Large, complex, contrast-enhancing mass replacing the left thyroid lobe with vascular supply and displacement of airway structures.

  • Right medial retropharyngeal lymph node enlarged and contacting adjacent vessels and musculature.

  • Asymmetrical mandibular lymph node enlargement with mild cavitation.

  • Diffuse dental bone loss and missing incisors.

  • Remaining skull and cervical spine appear normal.

Thorax

  • Enlarged cranial mediastinal lymph node (~0.93 cm).

  • Dependent lung changes (atelectasis/hyperattenuation) in cranial lobes.

  • Heart and pulmonary vessels normal.

Abdomen

  • Gallbladder with mineralized calculi up to 0.7 cm.

  • Multiple wedge-shaped renal cortical defects.

  • Small hypoattenuating nodule in left medial liver lobe (0.6 cm).

Conclusions

  • Locally aggressive, vascular thyroid carcinoma with regional and mediastinal lymph node metastasis.

  • Small hepatic nodule (possible metastasis vs benign).

  • Gallbladder stones.

  • Renal cortical infarctions.

  • Advanced periodontal disease with missing teeth.
